Lou Koppel

Lou Koppel is an award-winning metal and mixed-media sculptor. He uses materials such as anodized aluminum, plexiglass, carbon fiber, and LED lighting to create innovative, evocative art and functional pieces inspired by the bright, geometric works created by Constructivist and Bauhaus masters. Lou lives and works in Upstate region of South Carolina. His contributions to the Upstate art community include the founding of the successful cooperative “Art Gallery on Pendleton Square” in the town of Pendleton, S.C., and the organization of an annual series of art-in-the-park festivals. He also presented talks about his art to students at the intermediate school level.

With his wife Joan, he has taught several well-received art history courses in the OLLI programs of Clemson University, Furman University, and UCSD. These courses included “The Legacy of the Bauhaus” and “Hidden Gems: Off-the-Beaten-Path Art Galleries of Europe”.
